The oldest t-shirt line in the history of Oakland
James Copes founded Old School Copes in 1972, selling Oakland t-shirts for $6.
He coined the phrase/ citys nickname "Oaktown" in 1987 at my 2nd store in the Eastmont Mall. That's where MC Hammer, Too Short, Richie Rich, Tony! Toni!, Toné!, Boots Riley and many others used to get their t-shirts and hats made. These young artists helped make Oaktown a household name by sporting the shirt while on tour and kicking' it around the town.
